How to Check a Michigan Builder's License

Why The License Matters
A license is not a promise about quality. It tells you the builder is known to the state, and that there is somewhere to turn if something goes wrong.
Our Michigan builder license number is 262400343. It is at the foot of this site, and we encourage you to look it up before you call us.
Checking A Builder's License
Look Up The License
Every licensed builder in Michigan appears in the state’s license search, under Residential Builder, and each carries a pocket card. Ask to see ours when we meet. The number is at the foot of this site.
Ask For References
Ask any builder for the names of past clients, then call them. Ask how the build went, and whether the builder has a permanent office and a telephone that gets answered. We expect the same questions from you.
Get It In Writing
A good contract names the builder and the license, spells out the work and the materials, and covers timing, payment, insurance, warranty and who obtains the permits. We go through ours with you line by line, and we welcome your attorney’s review.
Permits And Inspections
A permit puts an inspector’s eyes on the work, and that is there for your protection. We prepare and submit the applications for the homes we build.
If Something Goes Wrong
A concern is best raised with the builder first, and a good one wants to hear it. Behind that stand the local building inspector and the state’s Residential Builders’ Section, where a complaint is filed. Bring anything to us directly.
Before You Hire Anyone
Choosing a builder comes down to a few things: who they are, what the contract says, how the permits are handled, and the warning signs of fraud. Put any of them to us and we will answer plainly.
General information, not legal advice. Each town, county and state office decides what applies to a property.
