Custom Home Builder The Ann Arbor Area, MI

Around Ann Arbor, Michigan, every town handles a new home in its own way, and some share the work with the county. We build across the Ann Arbor area and take care of each approval in turn.

Building In The Ann Arbor Area

Lots here can come with a wetland, a stream, the Huron River or old trees, and several towns have historic districts. We study your lot with these in mind before anything is drawn.

We work alongside your architect or designer. They lead the design. We keep you informed at every step and build it with care.

Where We Build In The Ann Arbor Area

Towns We Build In

We build in Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Dexter, Scio Township and Superior Township. No two of them handle a new home alike, so we begin with the town your lot is in.

Who Handles Permits

In Ann Arbor and Superior Township we file with the town’s own building department. In Dexter, Scio Township and Chelsea the town approves the lot plan and a county or shared office issues the permit. We take each in the right order.

County Offices You May Meet

A well and septic system, a driveway onto a county road, and keeping soil in place on the site each go through a Washtenaw County office. Where your lot involves them, we arrange them.

What Changes From Town To Town

Wetlands, streams, the Huron River, larger trees, historic districts, an older house coming down and working hours are all handled differently in each town here. We confirm what applies to your lot with the town early, while the design is still loose.

General information, not legal advice. Each town decides what is allowed on a property.

Questions About Building In The Ann Arbor Area

Who do we get a building permit from near Ann Arbor?

That depends on the town. Some issue it themselves, and in others the county or a shared local office does once the town has approved the lot plan. We file with each one in the right order.

Will our home be handled the same way in Dexter as in Ann Arbor?

No, each town goes its own way. We confirm what applies to your address with the town itself, then plan the home to suit.

Our lot has trees, a stream or wet ground. What happens next?

We have the lot looked at early and confirm with the town what applies to it, so the design begins on firm ground.

Our lot is outside the towns you name. Should we still call?

Yes, call. Tell us where the lot is and we will give you a plain answer about building there.

How will we know what applies to our lot?

We find out for you. We take your address to the town with your designer, get the answer from the office that decides, and explain it to you in everyday terms.
